Why Do We Adjust Gamma?
Gamma correction controls the overall brightness of an image without completely washing out the shadows and highlights. The human eye doesn't perceive light in a linear way—we are much more sensitive to changes in dark areas than in light areas.
Adjusting the gamma digitally compensates for this perception curve. When a photo looks too muddy in the middle shades (midtones), a gamma adjustment can beautifully correct this without destroying the darkest blacks or the brightest whites.
Fix Imbalanced Midtones
Most standard brightness tools just linearly slide all values up or down. Gamma uses an exponential curve, intentionally rescuing the medium-dark areas of an image without turning the pure blacks into a foggy gray screen.
Screen Calibrations
Images created on a Mac historically used a different gamma value (1.8) compared to Windows displays (2.2). Using a gamma correction tool allows you to accurately preview or fix images generated on mismatched display curves.
Reveal Details
By pulling the gamma slider up, deep shadows gradually lighten to reveal facial details, textures, or landscapes that were originally trapped in the dark without overexposing the already bright background regions.
100% Private Processing
Unlike heavy photo suites that demand cloud synchronization, our gamma pixel calculation runs 100% inside your web browser via HTML5. Your image is never uploaded anywhere, guaranteeing complete privacy and zero lag.
