About the Russian Language Proficiency Test (TORFL)

Welcome to the Official Cubbbix TORFL Assessment. This adaptive tool relies on an algorithm strictly calibrated to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the Russian Ministry-approved Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL / TRKI) testing standard.

Understanding Your TORFL Score

The Russian government uses a specialized acronym system (TORFL in English, TRKI in Russian) which maps perfectly to standard CEFR levels. Based on your 40-question performance, you will be assigned one of the following grades:

  • A1 (TEU) - Elementary Level: Can understand and use highly familiar everyday expressions. Minimum requirement to survive as a tourist.
  • A2 (TBU) - Basic Level: Can communicate in routine tasks and understand basic grammar concepts. You can obtain Russian citizenship at this level.
  • B1 (TRKI-1) - First Certification: Minimum requirement to enter a Russian university. Indicates you can handle most social and educational interactions.
  • B2 (TRKI-2) - Second Certification: Required for bachelor's or master's degrees in non-philological humanities. You have a high degree of conversational and academic fluency.
  • C1 (TRKI-3) - Third Certification: Required to work professionally as a translator, editor, or diplomat in a Russian-language environment.
  • C2 (TRKI-4) - Fourth Certification: Near-native speaker proficiency. Mastered literary nuance, complex syntactical exceptions, and obscure idioms.
