Passport Photo Maker
Crop to the exact ID size, check the head band, download the photo and a print sheet.
Upload a photo, pick the document size, and drag the sliders until your face sits inside the guide band. The page crops to the exact size, shows the pixel size at 300 DPI for online forms, and builds a 4 by 6 inch print sheet you can take to any photo printer. The sizes below were checked against the issuing authorities' published rules in November 2026, and every size is editable, because rules change and consulates have the final say. This tool crops. It does not remove a background, change your clothes, or fix lighting, so start from a photo taken against a plain light wall.
300 DPI is the standard print figure. Pixel size = mm / 25.4 x DPI.
No photo loaded yet. The dashed band shows where the head (chin to crown) should sit for the chosen size.
Honest limits. A crop is only one rule among many: the photo must also be recent (within 6 months for US and Schengen), front-facing with both eyes open, on a plain white or off-white background, with no glasses for a US passport (medical exception only), and unedited beyond cropping. The head band is a guide for positioning, not a measurement of your head: the tool cannot measure chin to crown from pixels, so check the band against your own face before printing. Saudi rules are the least settled of the set: guides agree on 40 x 60 mm and a large head at about 70 to 80% of the height, but differ on the exact head figure, so confirm with Jawazat or Absher before you apply. A consulate's page beats this page every time.
Three sizes cover most applications, and they are not interchangeable
The US passport photo is 2 by 2 inches, 51 by 51 mm, with the head 25 to 35 mm from chin to crown, which is 50 to 69% of the frame height, on a plain white or off-white background, taken within the last 6 months. The Schengen visa photo is 35 by 45 mm with a much larger head, 32 to 36 mm, or 70 to 80% of the height, under the EU Visa Code and ICAO Document 9303. The Saudi domestic passport photo is 40 by 60 mm on a pure white background, also with a large head at about 70 to 80% of the height. A 35 by 45 mm photo reused for a US application fails on size, and a US photo reused for Schengen fails on head proportion, even though both are "passport photos".
Pixel size follows from print size and DPI: pixels = millimetres / 25.4 x DPI. At 300 DPI the US photo is 600 by 600 pixels (2 inches times 300, using the exact 50.8 mm), the Schengen photo is 413 by 531 pixels, and the Saudi photo is 472 by 709 pixels. Online forms set their own windows on top of that: US online renewal uploads must be between 54 KB and 10 MB, and some portals cap pixels or file size differently, so export at 300 DPI and check the form's own limits before uploading. The print sheet uses the same arithmetic: a 4 by 6 inch sheet at 300 DPI is 1200 by 1800 pixels, and it fits eight 35 by 45 mm photos (4 across, 2 down), six 2 by 2 inch photos (3 across, 2 down), or three 40 by 60 mm photos, with cut lines between them.
Head height is the rule people miss
Most rejected ID photos are the right outer size with the wrong head size: too far from the camera and the head is small, too close and it is cropped. Chin to crown means the top of the skull, not the hairline, and the bottom of the chin, not facial hair below it. Use the guide band, then step back or zoom until the head fills it.
Print sheet maths, worked out
A 4 by 6 inch sheet is 152.4 by 101.6 mm. Divide each side by the photo size and round down: 35 by 45 mm gives 4 across and 2 down, 8 copies. 2 by 2 inch (50.8 mm) gives 3 across and 2 down, 6 copies. 40 by 60 mm gives 3 across and 1 down, 3 copies. Print at 100% scale, not "fit to page", or the sizes shrink.
