About This Tool

Welcome to our free online Chroma Key Remover. This tool allows you to take any image with a solid background color (like a green screen or a flat white background) and instantly convert that color into full transparency.

Perfect for extracting logos, isolating subjects, or creating graphic overlays, our tool gives you fine-grained control over the removal process with similarity threshold and edge smoothing sliders. Best of all, the entire image processing happens securely inside your own web browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Chroma keying is a visual effects technique for layering two images or video streams together based on color hues. The most common use case is the "green screen," where a bright, solid green color is removed from the background so a different background can be inserted.
The easiest way is to use the eyedropper feature. Simply upload your image and click anywhere on the canvas preview! The tool will extract the exact color pixel you clicked and set it as the background color to remove.
No! Our tool uses HTML5 Canvas to process the image entirely within your own browser. No data or image files are ever uploaded, sent, or saved to our servers. It is 100% private and secure.
Most backgrounds aren't a perfect, single flat color—there are shadows, lighting variations, and compression artifacts. The similarity slider allows you to broaden the range of colors that will be removed. A higher similarity will remove more colors related to your selected chroma key.
Without smoothing, pixels are either 100% kept or 100% removed, which can leave a harsh, jagged outline (aliasing). Edge smoothing creates a transition zone where pixels on the edge of the similarity threshold become semi-transparent, yielding a cleaner, more professional cutout.
If your subject (e.g. a person wearing a green shirt on a green screen) contains colors that match the background, those areas will also be removed. You will need to lower the similarity threshold to try and isolate the background, or use an image where the subject's colors strictly contrast with the background.
JPG files do not support transparency (an alpha channel). Since the entire purpose of this tool is to make the background transparent, the resulting image must be saved as a PNG format, which fully supports transparency.
