How the Word Unscrambler Works

Enter up to 15 letters and our tool instantly searches a comprehensive English dictionary to find every valid word that can be formed using only the letters you provide. Each letter in your input can only be used as many times as it appears — just like a real Scrabble tile rack.

Use the optional filters to narrow results: find words that start with a specific letter, end with a particular suffix, contain a required substring, or match an exact word length. Results are grouped by word length so you can quickly find the highest-scoring or most useful words.

Scrabble & Bananagrams

Maximize your score by finding the longest possible words from your tile rack. Our tool uses a full ENABLE-based dictionary, the same word list used in competitive Scrabble, so every result is a legal play.

Wordle & Word Puzzles

Stuck on Wordle? Use the "Starts with", "Ends with", and "Contains" filters together to find 5-letter words that match your known clues. It's the fastest way to eliminate impossible options.

Learning & Education

Word unscramblers are a popular classroom tool. Teachers use scrambled words as vocabulary exercises, and students can use this tool to self-check their answers or explore how many words can hide inside a longer word.

Brain Training

Anagram solving is excellent cognitive exercise. Regularly challenging yourself to find words in a random set of letters can improve vocabulary, pattern recognition, and lateral thinking — even before you check the answers here.

Frequently Asked Questions

A word unscrambler is a tool that takes a jumbled set of letters and finds all valid English words that can be formed using those letters. It checks every possible combination against a dictionary and returns only real, recognized words — saving you the mental effort of doing it manually.
The tool loads an English dictionary (170,000+ words) and checks each word against your letter set. For every word, it verifies that each letter used appears in your input the required number of times — so if your input has one "A", no word using two "A"s will be returned. All processing happens locally in your browser.
We use the ENABLE (Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon) word list — a comprehensive, publicly available English dictionary of approximately 172,000 words. This is the same dictionary used in many competitive word game applications and is widely regarded as a standard reference for English word validity.
All four filters are optional and can be combined freely. Starts with limits results to words beginning with your specified letters. Ends with filters for words ending in a particular suffix. Contains requires the word to include a specific sequence anywhere. Word length restricts results to an exact character count. All filters are applied simultaneously.
Yes — the tool supports up to 15 letters, which covers the vast majority of word game scenarios. A standard Scrabble rack has 7 tiles, and even with a full bonus play (14 tiles on the board) you stay within this limit. 15 letters also keeps the search fast and responsive in your browser.
Yes! Set Word length to 5, and use the filter fields to match your known Wordle clues. For example, if you know the word contains "R" and ends in "E", enter all your available letters, set "Ends with" to E, "Contains" to R, and Word length to 5. The results will show only 5-letter words matching all constraints.
If no words appear, try the following: remove or relax filter options (e.g., clear the "Starts with" or "Contains" field), try a shorter Word length, or add more varied letters to your input. Some letter combinations (like all consonants or very rare letters) produce fewer valid words — this is normal and reflects genuine dictionary coverage.
