The trickiest pairs
The hardest sounds to distinguish by ear are: ح vs ه (pharyngeal vs glottal h), س vs ص (plain vs emphatic s), د vs ض, and ع vs أ. The minimal pairs mode isolates exactly these contrasts.

For example: سَبَع (sabaʿ = seven) vs صَبَع (ṣabaʿ = finger) — only the s/ṣ distinction separates them. The Minimal Pairs mode in this quiz targets exactly these high-stakes contrasts.
