What Is Domain Rating?

Domain Rating (DR) is a metric developed by Ahrefs that measures the strength of a website's backlink profile on a 100-point logarithmic scale. The higher the DR, the more high-quality backlinks a site has pointing to it, and the easier it is to rank in search engines.

A domain with a high DR has an easier time ranking for competitive keywords. Building quality backlinks from authoritative sites is the primary way to increase your domain rating over time.

Backlink Profile Strength

DR is calculated based on the quantity and quality of backlinks. A single link from a high-authority site like Wikipedia can boost your DR more than hundreds of links from low-quality directories.

Logarithmic Scale

DR uses a logarithmic scale, meaning it gets progressively harder to increase your score as you climb higher. Going from DR 20 to DR 30 is easier than going from DR 70 to DR 80.

Compare Competitors

Use this tool to compare your domain rating against competitors. If your competitors have significantly higher DR, you may need to invest more in link building to compete in the same niche.

Track Over Time

Check your domain rating regularly to track progress. The history table below keeps a record of all your checks so you can monitor how your backlink profile improves over time.
