The laws and numbers this quiz drills
1. Alcohol law. In Texas you are legally intoxicated at a blood or breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher. A first DWI can bring a fine up to $2,000, 3 to 180 days in jail, and a license suspension of up to one year — and by driving at all, you have already given implied consent to a breath or blood test if arrested.
2. Belts and children. Every occupant of the vehicle must wear a seat belt, front seat and back. Children younger than 8 — unless already taller than 4 feet 9 inches — must ride in a child safety seat.
3. Road numbers. Unposted speed limit in an urban district: 30 mph. Minimum liability insurance: 30/60/25. Safe following gap: a two-second rule in good weather, more when it is wet, dark or crowded.
Law questions are arithmetic in disguise
Most law questions on the Texas test are really number questions: 0.08, 30 mph, 30/60/25, under 8 years old, two seconds. The wrong options are usually the same sentence with one number swapped. Build a small number sheet while you study — limit, fine, age, distance — and these become the fastest points on the exam.

Frequently Asked Questions
What BAC makes you legally intoxicated in Texas?
0.08 or higher for drivers 21 and over. For commercial drivers the limit is 0.04, and for drivers under 21 Texas has zero tolerance — any detectable amount of alcohol can bring a DWI or DUI charge and an automatic suspension.
What happens if you refuse a breath or blood test in Texas?
Under implied consent, refusing after a lawful DWI arrest triggers an automatic license suspension — 180 days for a first refusal — and the refusal itself can be used against you in court. Officers can also seek a warrant for a blood draw.
What is 30/60/25 insurance in Texas?
It is the minimum liability coverage the law requires: $30,000 for injuries to one person, $60,000 total for injuries in one crash, and $25,000 for property damage. Driving without meeting it can bring fines and a suspended license and registration.
Is texting while driving illegal in Texas?
Yes. Reading, writing or sending a text or email while driving is banned statewide, and using a hand-held device at all is prohibited in active school zones. Some Texas cities ban hand-held phone use entirely while driving.
